Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the curbs on exit before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in P19, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
